By 1907, Gustav Klimt had already transformed Viennese art.
He had founded the Vienna Secession, designed a ceiling so controversial the government rejected it,
and developed a style so unlike anything before him that critics invented a new phrase to describe it — the Golden Style.The Kiss was painted in the final years of that golden period.
